New housemate

P and I have lived in the same place in beautiful Greenwich for four years now. We’ve been relatively lucky with new housemates – except for that time the 56 year old man moved in. Oh, and that time that the Australian guy moved in who apparently lost the skill of speaking after week one and proceeded to just grunt at us all, and piss all over the bathroom. ALL OVER.

One is not amused.

My resting bitch face is on point today. I couldn’t tell you why. Perhaps because it’s Monday or it’s cold or I don’t want to be at work? However, I did just manage to distract my boss for the past 40 minutes in discussing the British royal succession, and whether or not we’d get a Bank holiday should the Queen pop her clogs. So a little morbid, but I love the royals, so any chance to slack off real work and browse Wikipedia I am all for it! Counting down the days and hours now. Only two more days until we will be jetting off to Prague. In Prague I plan to eat, drink and be merry! The Christmas markets will have started, it will be a barmy -6*C and I will be drinking my body weight in mulled wine.

Thai prawn boodles

With the release of the new season of Gilmore Girls my friend and I decided we wanted an indulgent Friday night in. We grabbed a bottle of wine and some dinner to whip up. I decided on a Thai inspired prawn stir fry using boodles (butternut squash noodles) instead of pasta so it remained paleo/Whole 30 compliant. Of course, the wine isn’t compliant – but sometimes you need to enjoy and compromise. The Thai prawn boodles went down a treat, here’s what I did: Stir fry garlic, onion and chilli in a little coconut oil. Then add sliced red pepper, mange tout and spring onions. Cook for 2-3mins. Add the prawns and boodles to cook through. Squeeze over the juice of one lime. Toss through some chopped coriander, sesame seeds and cashew nuts. Cover and cook for 3-4 mins to ensure everything is hot and cooked through. Serve. Hey presto! Easy peasy. Definitely a new favourite – I’ll be making this one again.

Nothing says ‘commitment’ better than buying Apple products together

The man: I don’t know why I don’t just use his name, most of you know who he is anyway, let’s just call him “P” from now on, he’s shy. So P and I have decided it’s time we upgrade our clunky, archaic laptops (I’ve had mine since I was 24!) for a brand new shiny one. I’m a Mac lover, him PC. That is, until I gave him my hand-me-down iPhone 4s when I upgraded to an iPhone 5s. Now he won’t shut up about it. Thanks to this lovely gesture I bestowed on him he is now fully on board with the idea of an Apple laptop – specifically a MacBook Air. Now, I have always had my own laptop, but we have discussed that perhaps we don’t need to buy one each, and could share. This makes me anxious. Not because I’m planning to stream porn and not tell him about it and forget to clear my history or because he’s going to see anything I don’t want him to. He knows and …

DIY Christmas advent calendar for grown men

As an adult there are not many surprises left when it comes to gifts. So this year in a bid to get my other half something personal and romantic (proper mushy), I am surprising him with a homemade advent calendar. One of my good friends was browsing in Tiger when she spotted the DIY advent calendar and asked me if I wanted her to pick one up. I quickly jumped at the idea as whilst my other half is a full grown man, he has in recent weeks shown interest in the advent calendars at the supermarket that are aimed at younger generations. I have decided to fill the 24 shutters with a note per day to say the many reasons why I love him (the mushy bit) and pair it with a small gift, chocolate treat or sexy coupon. For example; I love the way you say “sponge”. The best bit is that we fly to Prague early in the morning on December 1st so I will wake him up with his calendar surprise making it all the more exciting …
